He was predeceased by: his parents, H. C. Short and Inez Short (Reynolds); his son-in-law Ryan Strothman; and his brothers, Randolph Short, Radford Short and Taulbee Short.
He is survived by: his children, Brian Napier (Jennifer) of Glenwood, Sean Short of Brookville, Jennifer Strothman of Batesville and Tyrone Short of Brookville, Indiana; and his siblings, Kate Dunham of Troy, Donna Korner (Jeff) of West Harrison, Indiana and Ollie Short of Cincinnati, Ohio.. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
