He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Newton Phifer and Elizabeth Lowe (Jarret); his wife Karen Phifer (Haines); and his brothers, Gordan Phifer and James Eldon Phifer.
He is survived by: his children, Timothy Phifer of Indianapolis, Beth Chavez of Beech Grove, Rebecca Graves of Bloomington and Lea Shinaver of Carmel. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
