He was predeceased by: his parents, Pryce Gross and Laura McIntosh; and his siblings, Floyd, Kendall, Mason Gross, Lou Ellen, Helen and Maycel.
He is survived by: his wife Rachel Gross; his children, Nancy Helter (Ohio), Deborah Reid (Ohio) and Carless Ray Gross Jr. (Lisa) of Ohio; and his brother B. J. Gross. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.
