He was predeceased by: his parents, Ival Daniel and Viola Jessie Smeltzer (Gasho); his spouse Ivagene Smeltzer (Revis); and his siblings, Ivan Richard Smeltzer, Maxine Bowser and Eileen Wolfe.
He is survived by: his children, Carol Tynes of Lapel, IN, Stephen Smeltzer of Whiteland, IN, William Smeltzer of Indianapolis, IN and Brian Smeltzer of Clarks Hill, IN; and his siblings, Norman Smeltzer of Arcadia, IN, Mardelle McBane of Atlanta, IN, Jane Ann Dellinger of Tipton, IN and Martha Knapp of Arcadia, IN. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
