He was predeceased by: his uncle William F.; and his aunt Mabel Hovermale. He is survived by: his son Oretta Hovermale (Gustin); his wife Carol Hovermale (Fox); his sons, Bill Hovermale (Nicci) and Ted Hovermale (Carrie); his grandchildren, Shelby Kirkwood (Ben), William Hovermale Jr., Leo Hovermale and Zoe Hovermale; his great grandchildren, Bennett, Aubree, Emma and Kendall Kirkwood; and his siblings, Phyllis Jobe, Betty Fenton, Edward Edmonson, Janice Jackson and Sandy Grant. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriner's Children Hospital.
