He was predeceased by: his father James; his son James "Jimmy" A. Yates; and his brother Ronald P. Yates. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Linenfelser; his children, David L. Smith of East Alton, Carolyn E. Waigiri (Julius) and Stephanie A. Spann (Alan) of Glenpool, OK; and his grandchildren, Chris (Nikki), Amanda (Nick), Stevie (Sydney), Brooke (John), Carley, Ally, Dawson, Elaynah, Kristin (Aaron), Taylor (Zac), Kaylah (Tony), Felicity, Brianna and Austin.
