He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Benson and Esther Benson; his sister Jackie Goken; and his brother-in-law Eilert Goken. He is survived by: his wife Joan (Stratton); his children, Rich Jr. Benson (Penny) of Washington, IL, Brad Benson (Jane Baer) of St. Paul, MN and Sarah Benson (Lin Takrudtong) of Naples, FL.; and his grandchildren, Rich III Chloe (Jamie), Nina Benson, Henry, Oliver, Abraham and Violet Baer-Benson.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Tree of Lights, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, or the Dream Center of Peoria.
