He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Henry Hafner and Jane Hafner; his wife Peg; his children, Lisa Abraham (Adam) and Clay Hafner (Julie); his sister Judy Norris (Bob); and his grandchildren, Nate, Ellie, Emma, Zack, Grace, Chloe and Jane.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Friends of Point Betsie (pointbetsie.org) which was a place John spent many hours feeling God's presence and wandering the shores of Lake Michigan with his dog Marley and past dogs Daisy, and Molly.
