He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Bartels and Lillian Bartels (Wertz); his spouse Dianne Lukas of Gurnee; and his stepbrothers, Edward, Walter and Aaron.
He is survived by: his sons, Edward John Bartels (Kimberly) of Lisbon and Matthew Aaron Bartels of Wadsworth; his sister Helen Adkins (Earl) of Kentucky; and his grandchild Rachel Elizabeth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
