He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Magdaline Rote (Brown); his wife Lois G. Sellers; and his pet Heidi. He is survived by: his children, Julie Borg, Neil Rote (Kelly), Robert O. Rote (Barbara Gezzi) and James Rote (Pat); his grandchildren, Nicole Cummings, Andrea Backstrom, Andrew Borg, Kayla Rote, Colin Rote, Patrick Rote and Tyler Rote; his great grandchildren, Olivia Cummings and Lillianna Backstrom; and his close friend Beulah "Be" Swanson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department.
