He was predeceased by: his parents, Fairn R. Kern and Blanche Campbell Kern; his former spouse Fae June Sielschott; and his siblings, Hugh Kern, Richard Kern, Victor Kern, Geraldine Wahl, Lucille Wahl and Ruth Mullens.
He is survived by: his wife Judith Joy Kern of Petersburg; his children, Donald Jay Sielschott of Chandlerville and Cheri Dawn Shumate (Tom) of Greenville, SC; and his granddaughter Amanda J. Harris (Jeff) of Virginia. He is also survived by six nieces, one nephew, and many friends.
