He was predeceased by: his son Paul Vander Velde (Karen); and his siblings, Gerald Vander Velde (Jane), Katherine Lenderink and William "Bill" Vander Velde Jr.. He is survived by: his children, John Jr. Vander Velde (Margaret), Kimberly Evert (Harry) and Amy Bulthuis (Randall); his grandchildren, Alan Schubert (Amanda), Lance Schubert, Samantha Zagotta (David), Michael Vander Velde, Jacob Bulthuis and Zachary Bulthuis; his great grandchildren, Charlize, Dominic, Alexandria, Ryker and Bryston; and his siblings, Richard Vander Velde (AnnaMae), Wilma Steenland, Eleanor "Ellie" Wigboldy (Homer) and Ronald Vander Velde. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
