He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Thommes and Margaret Thommes; his former wives, Mary Rule Thommes and Esther Bates Brosch Thommes; his child Karen Jean Thommes of Kristin; his sister Elaine Jones (Thomas); and his son-in-law Shawn McClure.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Van of Walker Thommes; his daughter Kristin Jane; his stepdaughter Catherine Van of Walker Bolton; his grandchildren, Liam, Jude, James and Sinead; and his siblings, Thomas Thommes (Reta Kerrick), Peter Thommes (late Helen), Joan Kraus (Robert), Diane Becker (John), Kathleen Schneider (John), Carolyn Crowley (Patrick) and Marguerite Higgins (John). He is also survived by 30 nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Richard's name to the St. Mary Youth Group, 10307 Dundee Rd, Huntley, IL.
