He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert V. Nelson and Florence M. Nelson (Epperson). He is survived by: his wife Bette L. Packingham; his children, Lori A. Weaver (Tom) of Blaine, Diann L. Finley (Michael) of Glenview and David A. Nelson (Christine) of Rio; his stepchildren, Brian Packingham and Heidi Fuhr (Brian); his grandchildren, Kathryn, Jacob Weaver, Elizabeth, Tyler Finley, Alayna, Natalie, Grace and Luke Nelson; his sister Margaret Thulin (John) of Galesburg; and his nieces and nephews, Kelly Goldberg, Amanda Marrano, Linda Carlson, Tim Carlson and Don Carlson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Henderson Volunteer Fire Department or Trinity Lutheran Church.
