He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer and D. Kathryn VanMatre Jr. (Stevens); and his brothers, Don, Dennis and Darryl.

He is survived by: his pets, Jake, Charlie and Rizzo; his wife Linda of Freeport; his daughter DeDe Heid (Todd) of Appleton, Wisconsin; and his stepchildren, Jamie Hille (Lynn) of Mineral Point, Wisconsin, Cherie Boomgarden (Terry) of Freeport and Shawna Kreeger (John P.) of Freeport.
