He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray Sims and Gertrude Sims (Ramer). He is survived by: his wife Anne Sims (Gartner); his daughters, Mary Vonck (Raymond) and Colleen Sims; his grandchildren, Caroline, Paul, Sarah, Meghan and Fiona; and his sister-in-law Mary Dean (Gartner). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
