He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Van O. Wharton and Esther Williams Wharton; his wife Betty L. Travis; his children, Deborah Ann Augsburger and Robert V. Wharton of Fairbury; his grandchildren, Benjamin Wharton, Jodi Wharton (Ryan Brunson), Matthew Curl (Jayme) and Jeffery Curl (Bridget); his great grandchildren, Cole Shawback, Dany, Sydnee Wharton, Katy, Tyler, Ellie and Jesslyn Curl; and his brothers, James Wharton (Elizabeth) and William "Bill" Wharton.
The family suggests memorials be given to the John Joda American Legion; Fairbury Speedway; or Fairview Haven Retirement Community.
