He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Lee and Martha Ellen Gillen (Gaston); his sister Betty Gillen; his brother-in-law Ed Morenz; his mother-in-law Joann Griffin; and his sister-in-law Diane Wayne.

He is survived by: his wife Deborah Griffin; his children, Ronald Gillen, Daniel (Lisa Gillen) and Laura Schultz (Cory Madsen); his stepchildren, Timothy (Aimee Fyke), Kelley (Shawn Overrocker), Cara (Tom Peter) and Joseph (Corey Fyke); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy, Katie, Tyler, Jayne, Mitch, Tony, Chris, Danielle, Sydney, Ryan, Addison, Dalton, Evan, Knox, Rylie, Brody, Tommy, Noah, Brynn, Avery and Tessa Jo; and his siblings, James (Sue Gillen) and Joyce Morenz. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's research or American Legion Post 105.
