He was predeceased by: his parents, Ira E. Cole and Kathryn L. Cole (Dugan); his stepfather Earl Jones; his niece Staci L. Walta (Kime); and his friend Aaron Borchelt.
He is survived by: his wife Dora "Dodie" Wilkinson; his children, Debbie Gibson of Centralia, Dan Cole (Diane) of Centralia, Karen Cole of Ballwin and Lynda Hart (Brian) of Milton, Georgia; his grandchildren, Danielle Oellermann (Brad Ahlgren) of Carterville, Tyson Cole of St. Louis and Austin Hart of Milton, Georgia; his great grandchildren, Carder Scott Oellermann, James Daniel Oellermann and Lukas Dewayne Oellermann; his siblings, David Cole (Peggy) of Pekin and Kay Payne of Centralia, Illinois; his brother-in-law Sam Wilkinson of Centralia; and his nieces and nephews, Peggy Amason, Mary Lustig (Rick), Richard Wilkinson, Tammy Kime (Rick), Tim Payne (Deneen), Mark Payne (Rebecca), Kevin Cole (Kristin), Kelly Bloom (Matt), Terry Cole and Tricia Shaw (Justin).
Dewayne was a member of the Strike Out Cancer Golf Classic Committee that is held annually to fund the Jason Motte Foundation Skin Cancer Program through SSM Foundation and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Jason Motte Foundation to continue their work to strike out skin cancer.
