He was loved and cherished by many people including: his adoptive parent Thomas Donahue; his wife Anna Maria; his children, John E. Donahue and Christine Donahue Nesis of Chicago, Illinois; his grandchildren, Reiley Nesis, Emily Nesis and MacKenzie Nesis-Kraemer; and his close friend America. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins.
