He was predeceased by: his parents, William A. Gissel and Genevieve Gissel (Permantier); and his siblings, Thaddeus, Mary McChesney and Heidi Baker.

He is survived by: his wife Ann; his children, Will Gissel, Nicholas Gissel, Sarah and Yon Hafer; his granddaughters, Yvonne and Helen; and his siblings, Madeleine Bartsch, Susan, Aldo Bon, John and Carrie Gissel.
