He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Mayer and Hilda Mayer (Roth); and his wife Arlys Kosanke. He is survived by: his son John Edward (Pam) of Colorado Springs, CO; his brothers, Farms, Adam Permann and Matt Hornbacher; his daughter Melanie Sprague of Seattle, WA; his grandchildren, Madison Mayer (Glenn Proudfoot) of Phoenix, AZ and Nicholas Mayer (Hannah) of Columbia, TN; his great grandchild Arya Cox; and his sister Marlene Woodworth of American Falls, ID. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
