He was predeceased by: his mother Lorrie Koele (Vander Tuin); and his father-in-law John Dirksen. He is survived by: his father Duane Koele; his wife Diane Dirksen; his children, Jonathon Jaye and Brittany Morgan (Koele); his stepmother Rose Koele (Schouten) of Sioux Center, IA; his children, Dana Koele (Bartman) of Sioux Center, IA and Adam De Ruyter of Rock Valley, IA; his grandchildren, Maddie, Annie, Marcus Koele, Evelyn and Jack De Ruyter; his siblings, Rachel (Koele) and Stacy Koele (Dirkse); his mother-in-law Gerdena Dirksen (Bouma); and his brothers, Curt (Dar Hartog), Dave (Dawn Van Groningen) and Doug (Becky Dirksen). He is also survived by many uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Memorials may be directed to Sioux Center Christian School and Rock Valley Christian School.
