He was predeceased by: his parents, James Fertig and Lillian Fertig (Barthman); his daughter Jaree Fertig; and his siblings, Barb, Margie, Shirley and Jim.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Fertig of Polk City, IA; his children, Jared Fertig of Fort Dodge, IA, Ginger Altmayer of Ankeny, IA, Jeneil Sferrazza (Tony) of Sioux Falls, SD and Julie Ross (Courtney) of Des Moines, IA; his grandchildren, Andy, Derek, Alicia, Kristina, Cody, Nicole, Sam, Justin, Charrise and Jenna; his great grandchildren, Chloe, Riley, Marilyn, Jayden, Tegen, Heath, Lola, Mayson, Chaos, Alexandra and Tessa; and his siblings, Michael Fertig and Pam Roach (Steve). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
