She was predeceased by: her parents, John Simon and Pearl Mable Poggenpohl Bollinger; her husband George Daniel Swanson Jr.; her son-in-law Steve Gerth; and her siblings, John 'Bud', Essie, April and Alex.
She is survived by: her children, Danny Akers (Vickie) of Williamsburg, Georgia Gerth of Muscatine, Nancy Swanson of Oxford, Linda Keast (Russell) of Cedar Rapids and Kevin Swanson (Mary Lou) of Amana; her grandchildren, Devon, Danielle, Bill, Evan, Chris, Jesse, Zach, Sam, Jacob and Lauren; and her sister Shirley Pellissier of The Dalles. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Iowa City Hospice in Betty's name.
