It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Benita Zapata of Muscatine, Iowa, born in Brady, Texas, who passed away on April 5, 2023, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Manuel S. Hernandez and Aurelia Hernandez (Rodriguez); her husband Gregorio Zapata Jr.; her siblings, Vicente, Manuel, Richard and Margarita; and her great grandchildren, Miguel Angel Padilla and Sergio Padilla.
She is survived by: her children, Mary Becerra of Muscatine, Emma Calderon (Amparo) of Kansas City, MO, Margie Mendoza of Muscatine, Herman Zapata, Anita Zapata of Muscatine and Angie Zapata of Muscatine; and her sisters, Virginia Soto of Muscatine and Lucia Menchaca (Jimmy) of Mason, TX.. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Benita.
