He was predeceased by: his parents, LeRoy Pitts and Marie Pitts; his son Nicholas; and his siblings, Cheryl Ann, Roger and Lynn.

He is survived by: his wife Kimberli; his stepchildren, Sean Bruce (Crystal), Brian Bruce (Jen) and Cherry Cooper (Dale); and his brothers, Bob Pitts, Joe Pitts (Peggy) and Jeff Pitts (Sharon). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Balance Autism Iowa.
