He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell William and Ruth Christain (Mercer); his wife Judy McDaniel; and his brother Bill Christain. He is survived by: his daughter Meagan Christain of New Mexico; his grandson Brady James Harris of New Mexico; and his sisters, Beverly Newmire of Des Moines and Sondra "Sandy" Lyons of Boone. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
