She was predeceased by: her parents, Reuben Freese and Matilda Freese (Bohnsack); and her husband Earl Shanks. She is survived by: her children, Dennis Shanks (Cindi), Bruce Shanks of Mason City, IA, Randy Shanks (Cheryl), Terry Shanks (Jennifer) of Johnston, IA and Linda Rahm (Mark) of Mason City, IA; her grandsons, Curtis, Collin, Ryan and Sam; her brother Don Freese of Mason City, IA; and her siblings-in-law, Jean Shanks of Mason City, IA, Lois Shanks of Galena, IL and David Shanks (Joyce). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
