He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph "Joe" Banowetz and Pauline Banowetz (Teshak); and his siblings, Clarence, Robert Banowetz and Evelyn Costello.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Ann Sear; his son Benjamin Banowetz (Nichole) of Ankeny; his grandchildren, Claire and Millie; his sister Rita Banowetz of Preston; and his sister-in-law Marguerite Banowetz of De Witt.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jackson County, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. the Jackson County Historical Museum, or the Maquoketa Art Experience in his honor.
