She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernest Cowman and Martha Cowman (Wallace); her husband Richard Sparks; her son Joseph Miller; her brother Eugene Cowman; and her sister-in-law Linda Cowman.

She is survived by: her children, Mary Mathews-Slone (Vic) of Des Moines, Heather Welch (Bryan) of Adel and Buffy Farley (Mike) of Sheboygan Falls, WI; her grandchildren, Brennyn Sparks, Caitlin Lamb (Zac) and Draven Welch; her great grandchildren, Kaia and Jayda; and her siblings, Howard Cowman, Gary Cowman (Delores) and Dorothy Carter (Roger).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Vera's memory to the Grand Theater or Comfort House in Pella.
