He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob Bernard Schmitz and Laura Elizabeth Schmitz (Phillips); and his sister Mary Jean Ehr. He is survived by: his wife Marian Schmitz of Jesup; his children, Steven Schmitz (Paula) of Jesup, Bill Schmitz (Theresa) of Jesup, Teresa Kass (Don) of Jesup and Betty Breitsprecher (Wayne) of Independence, IA; his grandchildren, Brett, Erin (Zane), Jacob (Molly), Jordan (Caitlin), Allison (Elliott), Breatta (Aaron) and Nick (Maddie); and his sisters, Celeste Schares and Mardell Schmitz. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
