She was predeceased by: her parents, Ernest Peter Hemmer and Thelma Esther Hemmer (Harrington); her son Joshua Michael Schmitz; and her siblings, Tom, Bob Hemmer and Janice Youngblut.
She is survived by: her husband Michael Francis Steffen of Dunkerton; her children, Nicholas Schmitz (Miguel Rodriguez), Elizabeth Nordin of Dunkerton and Kathryn Schmitz (Becks Jordan) of Queen Creek, AZ; her stepchildren, Lauren Aguilar (Aaron) of Westgate, IA, Eddie Steffen (Katelyn) of Richmond Hill, GA and Sam Steffen of Waterloo; her grandchildren, Steven, Axl Aguilar, Mavrick, McKenna Steffen, Avery and Felicity Nordin; and her brothers, Larry Hemmer (Florence) of Indianapolis, IN, Jack Hemmer (Nikki) of Jesup and Steve Hemmer (Blane) of Minneapolis, MN..
