He was predeceased by: his parents, Renko Sr. and Henrietta Schmidt (Mammen); his wife Leola; and his siblings, Anna Werkman (Hank), Renko Jr. Schmidt (Gertie), Lucy Abels (Hank), Margaret VanDeest (Herbert), Martha Schmidt, Esther Freese (Chris), Irene Schmidt and Helena.
He is survived by: his daughters, Carolyn Schmidt and Becky Schmidt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
