He was predeceased by: his parents, John Conrad Herr and Christina Ehm Herr; his parents-in-law, Philip R. Umbaugh and Ella Marian Curry Umbaugh; his wife Marian Elizabeth Umbaugh Herr; his son Paul Walter Herr; his granddaughters, Kelly Kay Bachhuber and Sara Elizabeth McKibban; his siblings, William Herr, Albert Herr, Frieda Herr, Gilbert Herr and Irene Tilk; and his siblings-in-law, Wayne Tilk, Phillip Umbaugh, Opal Herr and Darlene Herr.
He is survived by: his daughters, Barbara McKibban (Steve) of Greenfield, Paula Bachhuber (Jack) of Urbandale and Marcia Plett (John) of Gladbrook; his daughter-in-law Virginia Herr of Greenfield; his grandchildren, Stephanie Fenster, Brian McKibban (Kristen), Brock McKibban (Karlee), Jason Bachhuber (Rami), Nicole Novak (Chris), Michael Plett (Lindsay), Matthew Plett (Kassaundra), Alyse Dreher (Daniel), Rachel Hall (Kelly) and Susan McDowell (Dillon); his great grandchildren, Carson, Cade, Colby Fenster, Braydon, Leighton, Madison McKibban, Isla, Felix McKibban, Blake, Levi Novak, Ellis, Nev Bachhuber, Emerie Plett, Cora, Quinn Plett, Alexis, James Dreher, Dean and Mary Hall; and his sister-in-law Maxine Umbaugh. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
