She was predeceased by: her parents, Everett Nelsen and Ruth Nelsen (Beenen); her brother Dr. E. Marlo Nelsen; her son Sam; and her grandsons, Bret Osier and Joseph Kramer.
She is survived by: her husband Jerald Osier; her children, Walter, Dave Osier (Shari) of Bondurant, Karen Smith (Mike) of Belmond and Walt Osier (Kim Bessine) of Burlington; her grandchildren, Ashlee Osier, Kendall Osier, Marshal Barr, Nick Smith, Austin Smith, Matthew Smith, Mariah Smith, Chanci Osier, Marina Osier, Alex Osier, Nicole Osier, Desiree Osier, Makayla Messerschmitt and Janea Osier; and her siblings, Dr. Carl Nelsen, Dr. Jerry Nelsen and Josie Rutter.
She then attended Iowa State Teachers College, where she was an active member of the Wesley Foundation and the National Honorary Science Fraternity, Chi Beta Phi.
