He was predeceased by: his fathers, Mathias Manternach (Faber) and John Deere; his sister Janaan Funke; his brothers-in-law, David O. Funke and James Sellner; his niece Janita Sellner; and his nephew Dean Funke.

He is survived by: his wife Lugene Johnson of Cedar Falls; his children, Theresa Harsen (Derek) of Cedar Rapids, Kathy Manternach of Cedar Rapids and Matt Manternach (Trista) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Madison and Caleb Manternach; his sisters, Carlyn Sellner, Judith Puetz and Sharon Manternach; and his stepchildren, Troy (Beth), Trent Johnson and Rhonda Jennings (AJ). He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews.
