He was predeceased by: his parents, George Matter and Elsie Matter (Chambers); his wife Barbara Matter (Thompson); and his siblings, Ione Mace and Kenneth Matter (Helen Larsen).
He is survived by: his children, Dean (Linda Matter), Gary Matter of Des Moines, Robert Matter II of Council Bluffs and Roberta Mead of Omaha; and his stepdaughter Marsha (Wayne Anderson). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
