He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Kate Bacher; his sister Evelyn "Patsy" Scarbrough; and his father-in-law Dale Marek. He is survived by: his wife Karen Marek; his children, Terrie Hardman, Byron Bacher and Emily Bacher; his grandsons, Christopher Bacher, Levi Combs and Marshall Combs; his mother-in-law Janelle Marek; and his siblings-in-law, John Marek (Suzy), Dianne Conrad (Merlin), Carol Corzatt (Jeff) and Cindy Marek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City VA Dialysis Nursing Staff or to Iowa City VA Palliative Care.
