He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Gudenkauf and Salome Gudenkauf; and his siblings, Carl Jr., Alfred "Al", Godfrey "Fay" Gudenkauf, Lois Fangmann, Edna Wolter and Mae Venneman.

He is survived by: his wife Barb; his children, Brad Gudenkauf (Susan) of Eagan, Janna Gudenkauf of Cedar Rapids and Jeff Gudenkauf (Jacklyn) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his grandchildren, Zach, Symon Ender, Kaden, Kaija Gudenkauf, Lexi and Hunter Gudenkauf; and his siblings, Lloyd Gudenkauf of Dubuque, Donna Hammerand of Dubuque, Joyce Peterson of Phoenix and Florabelle Ornelas of Tucson, Arizona..
