He was predeceased by: his parents, Ole C. Smidt and Evelyn Smidt (Charbonneaux); his sister Emily Redmond; and his great grandchild Harley Nelson. He is survived by: his wife Mary Smidt of Britt; his children, Lorie Nelson (Kim) of Garner, Tracy Riekens (Brian) of Britt and Trent Smidt (Becky) of Britt; his grandson Travis Nelson (Shantel); his great grandchildren, Everly and Trever Nelson; his brother Allen Smidt (Max); and also, Emerson, Ada, Taylor Krutsinger (AJ), Kael, Amanda McLaughlin (Jordan), Easton, Abigail, Cara Fish (Devin), Owen and Axton. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
