It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Dorothy (Gillis) Rathje-Armstrong of Atkins, Iowa, born in Saint Louis, Missouri, who passed away on October 29, 2021, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Melvin Gillis and Laura Gillis (Marsh); her husband Lenard J. Armstrong; her stepdaughter Kris Armstrong; her siblings, Jim, George, Louis Gillis, Norma Gould and Arlene Garvin; her foster parents, Raymond Klein and Justine Klein; and her foster sister Peggy Klein.
She is survived by: her former husband Alan Rathje; her children, Jolene Rathje of North Liberty, Marvin Rathje (Sandy) of Anamosa, Melvin Rathje (Elaine) of Warner Robins, GA and Jeffery Rathje (Tammy) of Watkins; her stepdaughters, Kim Spiess (Gary) and Kay Bartholomew (Ed); her grandchildren, Melissa Smith, Marsha Wimer (David), Amanda Langer (Adam), Matt Rathje (Johnna), Josh Rathje (Camela), Adam Rathje (Rayanna) and Robert Rathje (Taylor); her stepgrandchildren, Jenny Frey (Tony), Nicole Jones (Josh), Alison Montag (Andy), Megan McKnight (Mitch) and Bryce Bartholomew; and her sister Shirley Hamm. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
