He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father Navy; his son Dyke Hicks (Cindy) of Ames, Iowa; his wife Donna Marie Clayton; his sons, Team Hicks of Ames, Shieann Flores of Ames and Damian Carter of Ames; his granddaughters, Dr. Audra Stallard of Tacoma and Kristen Stallard of Richmond, Virginia; his brother Forrest Hicks (Sydney) of Dallas, Texas; his siblings-in-law, Karen Sacasky (Bob) of Amhurst, Virginia and David Clayton (Carol) of Mason City, Iowa; his nieces and nephews, Barbara Swanson, Robert Hicks, Nancy Stone and Alexander Hicks; his brother Jerry Hicks; his sister-in-law Joan Hicks; his niece Kathy Barrick; his great-great-grandparent Arie Niemantsverdreit (Ingetje); his great-grandparent Cornelius Maris (Gertrui); and his grandfather Charles Libbe Dyke (Gertrude).
The family requests memorials be made in Wayland's name to Cherokee Regional Hospice, Heartland Memorial Fund, Memorial Presbyterian Church Foundation, Cherokee Fire Department, and Marcus Fire Department.
