He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard "Bud" Nissen and Audre Nissen (Muhlenbruck); his fathers-in-law, Doyce Friedow and Paul Christiansen; his brother-in-law Monty Friedow; his nephew Ian Nissen; and his close friend Ron Wilhelm.
He is survived by: his son Matthew Nissen (Janet); his grandson Hudson; his children, Lyndsay Nissen and Kat Nissen-Maag (Tai); his siblings, Brian Nissen (Ivonne) and Kristi Phillips (Charlie); his mother-in-law Audrey Friedow Christiansen; and his sisters-in-law, Donyce Eekhoff (Pete) and Joslyn Lubbers (Gordy). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
