He was predeceased by: his parents, James K. Allfree and Myra Jane Allfree (Baker); his spouse Beverly Emmack; and his son Chris. He is survived by: his children, Guy of Story City, Craig of Des Moines, Kirk of Ames, Kim Hasstedt of Ames and Jill Allfree of Ames; his grandchildren, Kelly Verhage (Jake Verhage) of Underwood, Iowa, Katie Hasstedt of Ames, Indyca Allfree of Ames, Dakotah Allfree of Ames and Kristopher Hasstedt of Knoxville, Tennessee; his great grandchildren, Cody of Underwood, Kaylee of Underwood, Hattie of Underwood, Jacob of Underwood, Birdie Verhage of Underwood, Finn Hasstedt and Ezra Anderson of Ames; and his friend Lynn Nehls of Ames.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard's name may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
