He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Read and Freda Read (Donegan); his sons, Terry Marshal, Robert Leslie and Randal Scot; his wife Ula Jean; and his brother Marvin Read of Victor Iowa.
He is survived by: his children, Richard Craig and Marsha Jean Olinghouse (Mark); his children-in-law, Lyrio Cloma Read of Des Moines, Sheryl Read of Hubbard and Mark Olinghouse of Ankeny, Iowa; his great grandchild Terry Marc Read (Jennifer); his sons, Mason, Drake of San Antonio, Texas and Matthew Read (Jill); his grandchildren, Jacob, Katey, Anna and Daniel of Dike, Iowa; his son Jonathan Jackson (Elizabeth Barnes); his grandson Owen of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his daughter Erika Mears (Brandon); his grandchildren, Ashton and Joelle of St Charles, Illinois; and his children, Heather Phillips (John) of Ankeny, Iowa and Tomas Read (Whitney). He is also survived by six grandchildren.
In keeping with Alvin's conviction that the deceased still has more to give than simply being buried or cremated, his body has been donated to the Des Moines University Body Donor Program for medical education and research.
