He is survived by: his wife Melissa Murphy Smith of Villa Rica; his children, Cynthia Jean Smith of Carrollton and Howard Smith (Kayla) of Douglasville; his stepson Matt Hanson; his siblings, Penny Smith and Norman Smith; and his grandchildren, Howard Jr., Christopher and Kynzlee. He is also survived by numerous other grandchildren and relatives.
