He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Charlie Bates and Fannie Zela York Bates; his wife Deborah Bintz Bates; and his sister Jeanette Bates. He is survived by: his children, Chris Bates of Charlotte, NC, David Watson of Stockbridge, GA, Debbie Watson of Jonesboro, GA, Tina D. Bates of Newnan, GA and Donna Martin (Ronnie) of McDonough, GA; his siblings, Dolores Bates Laseter of Ochlocknee, GA and Joseph T. Bates of Moultrie; his granddaughter Stephanie Martin of Snellville, GA; and his siblings, Kayla Blanchard (Dillon) of Chicago, IL, Elizabeth Valdez (Joseph) of Charlotte, NC, Drew White of Eastman, GA, Rachel White of Conyers, GA and Thomas Bates of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and friends.
