He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlos Sammy Byrd and Pearl Ivydale Lain Byrd; and his brother Elmer Byrd. He is survived by: his wife Mildred Byrd; his children, Anita Fennell (Bobby), James Byrd, Jr. (Katherine) and Lonnie Byrd (Melissa); and his grandchildren, James Byrd, III, Sarah Skinner (Cole), Mary Katherine Byrd and Logan Byrd. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
