He was predeceased by: his parents, Cyrus I. Shelton and Eulalia West Shelton; his son Dr. Thomas Shelton; and his siblings, Howell Shelton and Rosmond Ward.
He is survived by: his wife Nelle Tuggle of Perry; his children, Charles Irby "Chip" Shelton, Jr. of Perry, Nancy McLendon (Sandy) of Perry and Dr. Louis Shelton (Tesa) of Perry; and his daughter-in-law Bristol Shelton Williams (Jerrell) of Perry. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
